NEW VIDEO ALERT: HOLY WATA BY RENISE

Welcome to the Dulce Camer blog.

Gospel music has just been rebranded as cool and made into a dance floor filler by MuMaK's leading lady, the soulful Renise who has dropped the video to her new track "Holy Wata".

Renise is 21 from Mankon in the NW region with an already impressive music background performing in leading gospel choirs as well as lending her distinctive backing vocals to some urban artists across Cameroon.

Renise sings mostly in English, pidgin and her native dialect. Her current track "Holy Wata" is written by herself and Le Monstre as well as produced by the accclaimed Le Monstre too. The video was also directed by the wizard with a camera, the wonderboy; February 16th.

CAMP SUH DAY

American football defensive tackle for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL), Ndamukong Suh recently organised his Camp Suh Day this month.

The event was a combination of a sports day as well as an opportunity to pass on life's vital skills. Ndamukong was surrounded by about 250 children with a small army of coaches ready to pass on the fundamentals.

Ndamukong reiterated the aim of the camp day by stating “Everybody obviously knows we want to teach them football and little nuances they can learn growing up but the biggest thing is the life skills, understanding that the biggest part of this is learning how to be a young woman or a young man and the dedication and hard work and competing." 

He also gave out scholarships to about 25% of the campers.

TOO'MAII: BE THE ORIGINS

Hello fab DC readers, thank you all for the continuous support you've been showing us throughout these 4 years (gosh time flies!!). Our pageviews has finally surpassed the 100,000 mark and it is all because of you!! Yippeee!!

So here we go again like we love to do, bringing you another talent within the design circle. So read below our 5 minutes catch up with Jules Wokam as he talks fashion and design.

DC: Dites nous la signification du nom de « Too'maii ».

Jules: Toumai est le nom donné au plus vieux squelette découvert sur la terre (l'ancêtre de Lucie). Il a été découvert dans la région de Djoura au nord du Tchad et c'est ce squelette qui fait de l'Afrique le berceau de l'humanité. Nous avons donné au nom une consonance plus internationale de Too'maii / be the origins.

DC: La marque était-elle fondée en quelle année?

Jules: La marque a été créée en mai 2005 et la première collection a été présentée en octobre 2005. Too'maii produit 2 collections par an;  en juin et décembre.

DC: Qui sont vos clients idéales?

Jules: La cible commerciale de Too'maii est la classe moyenne naissante (qui est toute petite aujourd'hui mais qui va surement se développer très vite).

DC: Combien de temps êtes-vous designer?
Jules: Je suis designer depuis une dizaine d'année et je dirige à Douala un studio de design global appelé TOGU'NA STUDIO (identité-objet -espace) orienté vers l'architecture commerciale. On travaille essentiellement sur le lancement des produits et sur la construction des identités de marque et des espaces de vente.

DC: Que pensez-vous de l'industrie de la mode au Cameroun?

Jules: Pour que l'on puisse parler d'industrie de la mode, il est nécessaire qu'il puisse exister des plateformes de production et de distribution et aussi il faut que les marque ou les créateurs affirment fortement leur positionnement commerciale.

J’ai fait une formation designer a l'école des arts décoratifs de Strasbourg en France il y'a 10 ans après un bac F4 et deux année d'étude de physique à l'université de Douala.

J’ai obtenu aussi le prix de l'union européenne pour le design Africain à la biennale de Dakar en 2004 et aussi d'un prix Afrique en création de culture en France en 2005.

Au niveau international, on me connait plus comme designer de mobilier que comme designer de mode parce que je présente mon travail de mobilier dans des expos internationales depuis plus de 10 ans. Notamment à la biennale de St Etienne, au salon du meuble à Paris, à la biennale de Dakar.

La première partie de la nouvelle collection est disponible depuis quelques semaines (par petit bout) à Too'maii shop à Bonapriso, chez Evaka à Akwa et chez Tsekenis à Akwa.

La collection sera complète en magasin vers le 10 juin. Les prix maximaux est de 20,000 F CFA pour la ligne principale et au dessus de 20,000F CFA pour la ligne en édition limité.

IMANE AYISSI DOES IT BIG BOI STYLE

One thing we have learned about Imane Ayissi is that he does not do things in halves especially when it comes to his haute couture pieces for his haute clienteles.

His images are always very elegant and glam exploring and unveiling the silhouettes of his pieces as if to show all the craftsmanship and hours he has poured into making every single piece.
